BTEC First Diploma Children’s Care Learning and Development

To look after and work with children it is important that you understand their development, it is impossible to think that you can meet a child’s needs unless you know what to expect from them.

BTEC enables you to explore the principles of child development. You will find out that children develop and learn through their play. You will be taught the importance and value of all types of play as well as when to be involved and when to intervene in children’s play.

It is very important that the children that are in your care are safe. You will learn how to keep children of all ages in safe. You will learn that the environment must make the children feel not only safe but comfortable and secure.

You will also be taught that a positive environment will encourage children to develop and learn to their potential. You will also find out how to communicate with children, taking into account the age and stage of development of that child.  Work placement is an essential part of this course. You will be constantly observing and learning how to work with children from birth up until 16 years of age.
